1. Lake Moiry - An unreal turquoise blue
🚶 Level: easy
↔️ Distance: approximately 6 km
⛰️ Elevation gain: +150 m
📍 Access: Moiry dam car park
Head towards the mythical Lake Moiry . Turquoise water, monumental dam, glacier in the background: it is clearly one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Switzerland.
Perched at an altitude of over 2,200 meters , this artificial lake is dominated by the Moiry Glacier . The light color of the rock in the lake gives the water its distinctive turquoise hue . The contrast between the milky water, the ice, and the rocky walls creates a spectacular setting typical of the Swiss Alps … and frankly, hard to beat.
The loop around Lake Moiry is undoubtedly the most iconic hike around Grimentz. Accessible , scenic, and with no technical difficulties , it's the perfect route for a first taste of the Val d'Anniviers . You can acclimatize gently to the altitude, feast your eyes on the breathtaking views, and above all… revel in the panorama from beginning to end.
Muule's little tip : Opt for a waterproof hiking jacket to protect against wind and alpine spray, and sunglasses. (your eyes will thank you) and a cap because the light reflecting off the water hits much harder than you might imagine.
